PartyGaming to join FTSE

Beitragvon TheFolder » Donnerstag 15. September 2005, 07:33

PartyGaming has changed poker forever. After having one of the biggest IPO floats to hit the London Stock Exchange (L.O.S.) in recent years, PartyGaming is once again set to make another bold move when it becomes the first web-based firm to join the Financial Times-Stock Exchange (FTSE) 100 Index, otherwise known as "the Footsie," since the dotcom explosion.

The company will replace Hays, a recruitment firm that will drop off the market following the quarterly reshuffle of FTSE. PartyGaming's closing value Tuesday of £4.2 billion is stronger than some of the more established businesses on the FTSE such as British Airways and Dixons, an electrical retailer.

PartyGaming's move to the FTSE comes despite warnings from the company of the possible slowing of the future growth of the online gaming market. This announcement came despite PartyGaming's reports of successful previous 6 months, which saw the company's revenue increase by 70 percent.

According to chief executive Richard Segal, PartyGaming is going to take steps to stay ahead of other poker sites. "As the rate of growth continues to moderate, we will continue to adapt our marketing strategy and infrastructure to provide greater on customer retention and player value," Segal said.

ShareCast.com has also reported that PartyGaming received another sign of positive support early Friday when Germany's Commerzbank upgraded its stock to "buy" from "hold," and gave support to the company by claiming that the markets initial reaction to PartyGaming's announcement of a slowdown was one of overreaction considering PartyGaming's results were in line with expectations.

PartyGaming has enjoyed enormous success since its June debut on the L.O.S. and has set the tone for the online gaming industry with its business plan and marketing tactics.

Penn State Takes College Poker Honors

September 26, 2005
Michael FriedmanPrint
Email to a friend
Post a comment Penn State is known for its football team and famous head coach, Joe Paterno, as well as for its academic proficiency, but soon it will be known as a card shark's paradise with its recent ranking as the number one poker-playing campus in the world.

The State College, Pa., university received the impressive honor at the conclusion of the 2005 College Poker Championship. This free online tournament at collegepoker.com, drew 25,000 competitors worldwide with 612 coming from Penn State and the school earned the No. 1 poker-playing campus honor by advancing 10 players to the final round.

The tournament series, which runs from September to May, is open to any college student enrolled for the 2005-06 school year, awards scholarships as prizes for the top finishers.

Penn State set the bar high for other schools and showed that the land of blue and white, is a poker hotbed. 'I had no idea. I knew a lot of people played, but I didn't know the campus was this good,' said junior Ryan Smeltzer in a recent article by CentreDaily's Chris Rosenblum.

According to senior Matt Crowley, the school has plenty of action at any given time. 'It's pretty big. I'd say out of every circle of friends, there are guys and even girls who play. Most Tuesday nights, my one friend has $20 buy-in tournaments, and he can get up to 15 players.'

One has to wonder how the country's future leader's balance their hectic class schedules and the poker action. 'We have little study rooms in the dorms' said freshman Colby Welshans.

Freshman Matt Savory echoed Welshans' sentiments and talked of heavy action as students put in late nights perfecting their games. 'I've walked by there (Findaly Commons room) at 3:30, 4 o'clock on a Tuesday night, and there will be all kinds of people playing.'

Not everyone is thrilled with the school's recent honor. Dr. Dennis Heitzmann, director of counseling and psychological services at University Park, noted that there have been reports of compulsive gambling habits by students.

'I think it's safe to say there are more incidents of it. You stop short of saying there is an epidemic of it, but clearly there are incidents of individuals seeking help for problems of what could appear to be another addictive behavior,' Heitzmann said.

Despite the fact that the College Poker Championship is free and it helps to pay for student's college cost by awarding scholarship money as prizes, Heitzmann fears that it might hook the school's students. 'It's a click away. It's a diversion that's enticing.'

28 year old Chef wins $1m from Paradise Poker

After battling 3,900 opponents online, Lee Biddulph, a 28 year old chef from Blackpool, England has walked away with
$1 million dollars, the winner of ParadisePoker.com's first Million Dollar Free online poker tournament.

The final table, which was played out in a mystery tropical location, was made up of nine amateurs, eight from the U.S. who beat out almost four thousand players at ParadisePoker.com. In the end, it came down to a showdown between Biddulph and Mike Darweesh, a software engineer who processes images
from Mars, and lives in Tempe, Arizona

After seven hours of play at the final table, Biddulph revealed the
tension. "Even my teeth are shaking," he said as he played the final hand.

On the second to last hand minutes before, both players checked right through to the river, facing a board with four diamonds. Darweesh led with a bet of $200,000. Biddulph thought for a moment before reraising it up to $600,000. Darweesh called, and flipped over a 9 of diamonds. Biddulph turned over the 10 of diamonds and took the pot with a higher flush. Darweesh rose to his feet as the final hand caused an eruption from the previously silent crowd. Both players were all in before the flop, and as they revealed their hole cards the crowd saw that Darweesh had queen/nine and Biddulph had the dominant ace/ten. The first card from the deck was an ace, which sent the crowd into a further frenzy. The remaining cards on the flop
were a 6 and 3. The turn card produced an 8 - sending Biddulph into shock and sending tears streaming down his girlfriend Debbie's face. The river showed another 6, and it was over.

"ParadisePoker.com is a great experience at the best of times, but throw $1 million in to the pot and make it a freeroll for amateurs and you discover a whole new crowd able to challenge the best of the pros", said Bruce Stubbs, marketing director, ParadisePoker.com. "Lee played brilliantly, he started the
final table with less chips -- $1.58 million to Mike's $2.72 million and came out a winner.

"In the end - the $1 Million Freeroll Tournament has been a historic event, lots of fun and ample opportunity for online poker players who want to try out their skills with the best of amateurs.

Our second $1 Million Freeroll Tournament is already in progress," Stubbs added.

All finalists received an all expenses paid weekend to a five star resort in Costa Rica for themselves and a guest, as well as receiving $10,000 just for making it to the final table.

Online Gaming Stocks Continue to Fall

Empire Online Announces that Market Has Been Flat

Shares for online poker giants Empire Online and PartyGaming fell sharply on the London Stock Exchange on Monday after Empire reported that online poker growth has remained stagnant the last few months.

World Poker Players Conference - Wrap Up

Beitragvon TheFolder » Donnerstag 17. November 2005, 11:29

World Poker Players Conference - Wrap Up

It seems that Mike Caro has been playing poker since before the dinosaurs stopped roaming the earth - or around the time Doyle Brunson won his first WSOP bracelet. Yet every day, every poker session, every hand brings a new lesson and improvement to his game.

Perpetual learning was the theme of his talk at the Sixth Annual Poker Players Conference at Foxwoods Resort and Casino Saturday. Caro's message was simple: No matter what level a poker player is at, he must continue to learn and study the game if he wants to stay ahead of his opponents.

"I know many pros who achieved greatness at one time and not only do they not continue to learn, but their skills actually decline," said Caro, known as the "Mad Genius of Poker." "When I learned poker we all had to do extensive research to get better. Now with books, seminars, DVDs, it's a lot shorter trip for a studious person to improve his or her game so there's no excuse."

More than 150 players joined Caro, Barry Tanenbaum, Lee Jones, Mark Gregorich and other pros for a full day of studying, talking, debating and breathing poker in the hills of Connecticut. Tanenbaum's lecture, titled "Making One Big Bet Per Hour," was a well-received diagnostic on the order of learning in poker.

"Most pros do not make one big bet per hour, however it is possible at lower, middle and sometimes higher limits if you spent time working on your game," Tanenbaum said. "Everyone eventually learns that you raise with aces and fold 7-2 offsuit. The question is somewhere beyond that what do you do to make one big bet per hour."

Tanenbaum, a successful coach and high-limit player, still studies and asks advice from others in the game. He offered this order of learning to improve your game:

1. Learn to play tight

2. Learn to fold early

3. Incorporate position and strategy into your game

4. Learn to read hands

5. Learn to set and avoiding traps

6. Learn to win without a hand

7. Induce calls and bluffs

8. Learn to play the players

"I coach beginners and pros and the successful ones have one thing in common - they want to learn and improve their games," Tanenbaum said. "There's a reason that people who won several WSOP bracelets years ago will no longer win them again - they have failed to adjust their games and improve."

Lee Jones announced a newly completed theoretical poker process called, "An Equilibrium Heads Up-Strategy for No Limit," developed by James Kittock, of Mission College, California and Jones. The mathematically-based theory uses a "power number" assigned to each card. The number gets added and multiplied to get a "power index" and a ranking.

Depending on the power number, two players heads up in a tournament can easily decide to push or call a push. "There is no maybe in this system - it is proven mathematically and will work," he said. "If you play this strategy, your opponent must play the equivalent strategy, or his EV will go down."

Jones and Kittock will soon publish their findings. Though at first complicated on paper, Jones' explanation had many players eager to test it in their own tournaments.

"I play every Tuesday with the same bunch of guys and I can't wait to show up with this stuff," said Jason Johnson of Hershey, Pennsylvania. "We have some guys who I've played with for years whose game doesn't change. You have to come to these conferences and continue to improve your game otherwise people will pass you by."

I-Gaming: Illegal And Thriving (Illegal und florierend)

Beitragvon TheFolder » Mittwoch 30. November 2005, 12:34

CBS) The point of making something illegal is to stop people from doing it, and penalize them if they do.

Then there’s Internet gambling. The federal government is clear: gambling on the Internet is against the law. And yet millions of Americans do it on hundreds of Web sites, to the tune of billions of dollars.

While Internet gaming is illegal in the United States, correspondent Lesley Stahl reports it is absolutely thriving.

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

In the virtual casinos of the Internet, you can bet on anything. Spin the wheels on slot machines and roulette, roll the dice in backgammon and craps. You can wager on any sport.

Or take a seat at Partypoker.com, where you’re playing against real people who could be anywhere on Earth. At any given moment, there can be hundreds of thousands of people gambling on sites like Partypoker.com.

“There’ll be more online poker games per day at the end of this year than all of the casinos in the entire world put together. It’s a huge business,” says Nigel Payne, who runs Sportingbet, one of the world’s biggest online gambling companies.

For Payne, one big reason online gaming is such a lucrative business is that because he doesn’t face the costs traditional casinos do. “I don’t need a hotel. I don’t need any croupiers. I don’t need any cocktail waitresses. I don’t have to comp any drinks. I don’t have to comp any hotel rooms.”

And players don’t ever need to leave their homes. Just type in a credit card or bank account number and you’ll be betting within minutes.

Internet gaming companies will make $10 billion in profit this year. They’re all based overseas, but as much as 80 percent of their traffic – and profit - comes from the U.S.

“I believe there’s about 12 and a half million Americans today use internet gambling in its widest form. That’s a hell of a lot of consumer power,” says Payne.

It’s so much power that America’s gaming industry, which has long opposed Internet gambling, is shifting its position.

“I think the issue is very simple: that you should license it, regulate it and tax it,” says Terri Lanni, the CEO of MGM/Mirage.

Lanni says if his company could offer Internet gambling, it could instantly double its $8 billion-a-year revenues. “If we could add our brand, and the credibility of the publicly-traded United States gaming company, this could be a vast business,” Lanni says.

But MGM/Mirage is shut out, because the government says a law banning sports betting over the phone also bans all gambling on the Internet.

Obviously, it hasn’t stopped U.S. citizens from doing it, but it has stopped U.S. companies from offering it.

“The vast majority of wagers that are placed on the Internet now are done offshore and illegally. And I for one think that to enact laws that you can’t enforce makes no sense whatsoever,” says Lanni.

Lanni and MGM/Mirage set up their own offshore gambling Web site a few years ago, but to stay within the law, they only accepted bets from gamblers outside the U.S.

Lanni says the site didn’t make any money and was eventually shut down. He calls the U.S. government’s current position on online gaming odd: “There’s no doubt about it. There’s gaming in every state but two states in the United States. If it’s legal there, and it’s regulated and taxed and we’re comfortable with it there, why don’t we allow it also in the area of Internet where people – so much commerce is going through the Internet right now? It makes no sense.”

Even so, no one in Congress is pushing for legalization. In fact, Senator Jon Kyl, Republican of Arizona, is going the other way; he has a bill designed to really crack down on what he calls a “social pathology.”

“It’s so easy to do. It’s so easy for kids to do. It’s so addictive. And it has frequently been demonstrated that there’s a lot of graft and corruption in this,” says Sen. Kyl.

Kyl’s bill aims to choke off the money by prohibiting U.S. banks and credit card companies from handling any online gambling transactions.

The senator admits that his bill may not completely stop online gaming. “We may not be able to stop it all, but if we can stop the major part of it that’s coming from offshore, I think we will have done something very, very good,” he says.

Kyl bristles at how law enforcement currently does nothing to go after offshore operators.

At a big convention of the international gambling industry in Las Vegas, there was an entire pavilion dedicated to Internet gaming. Many of the top executives attended, despite the fact that their business is illegal in the U.S.

So why doesn’t the FBI or justice department make arrests at the convention?

“The Justice Department says ‘We have lots of other priorities,’ and they’re right,” says Steve Lipscomb, the founder and CEO of the “World Poker Tour” TV show, which helped fuel the craze for Internet gambling.

“You and I don’t want them chasing after the guys who are putting online poker. We want them to make sure that the next terrorist attack is not likely to happen. So I believe their priorities are straight. It’s simply that by not enforcing, they’re making it entirely inequitable,” says Lipscomb.

Asked to explain, Lipscomb says, “They keep the legitimate companies out of the business, and all of that goes to offshore companies that in no way can be regulated…. or taxed.”

Those offshore companies are so brazen, they advertise. There are banners pulled by airplanes, ads in magazines, and commercials all over cable TV.
How can a cable network air an ad for an illegal activity? It’s all in the fine print.

One ad was not for paradisepoker.com, where you can gamble, but for paradisepoker.net, which they call an “educational” site.

“You can play for free on those sites and learn about how to play poker,” says Lipscomb.

The .net site can advertise because there is no money involved, so it is not considered gambling. But with their identical logos and brand names, the obvious goal is to draw people from the free.net site over to the real gambling.com site.

“They are certainly spending a lot of money to educate people about the game of poker,” says Lipscomb.

Many of those being educated are kids. And many of those kids then try to play for real.

Sen. Jon Kyl says that’s the biggest danger in online gambling. “Our kids have access to the Internet. They’re frequently not supervised. And you can run up a huge debt on your folks’ credit card very, very quickly.”

To test that theory, 60 Minutes gave Alex Hartman, the 16-year-old son of this story’s producer, his dad’s MasterCard.

According to Nigel Payne, whose company owns paradisepoker.com, Alex isn’t likely to be able to gain access to or place bets on any of his sites, despite having his dad’s credit card. “That 16-year-old has got to give me four or five pieces of information about him relative to his bank account, his personal details, where he lives and other things. So I can be 99 percent comfortable that this 16-year-old doesn’t even get through my front door.”

And it appears that he’s right. As Alex attempted to register with Paradise Poker, something made the computer suspicious about him. Warnings kept popping up – “You must be 18 or older” – and then he was rejected.

But then Alex did what most kids would: he tried another site, and another. On the third try, without any questions about his age, he was approved. In five minutes, Alex was playing roulette.

Just ten minutes later, he was $100 in the hole.

Payne agrees that the pool of potential underage gamblers is bigger than for traditional casinos. “Without doubt. Which is why we have to be 20 times better. But it’s also why we HAVE to be regulated.”

Payne argues that if the U.S. legalized Internet gaming, all of the problems associated with gambling could be controlled better.

Addiction to gambling, says Payne, is a huge problem both online and at traditional casinos. And he says online gambling may be better equipped to deal with the issue, since players can be tracked electronically.

“Imagine you’re an addicted gambler, ok? You try to reload your account too quickly because you’re playing too quickly. Stop. I’ve got a closed loop of data. I can actually track what you’re doing,” says Payne.

Sen. Kyl is skeptical. “So some outfit in Aruba decides that somebody is gambling too much on their Web site. What are they going to do? Knock on somebody’s door and say, ‘You know, we think you’re gambling a little too much on our line here, you probably ought to knock it off.’ That’s not going to happen.”

The senator doesn’t think legalizing or regulating the industry will make a difference. “Most of this is done in foreign countries. So even if we try to create some kind of standards, it’s not to say that it’s going to be enforced by a foreign government.”

In other words, says Kyl, anybody can put up a site.

But Payne says that ina regulated environment, disreputable companies or gambling websites won’t last long, as “consumers vote with their feet.”

“Trust is an immense factor. If you say to an American consumer, ‘This site is trusted and licensed and this one isn’t,’ I promise you within 12 months the problems you’re referring to will have disappeared or significantly reduced, because customers will have voted with their feet.”

Sixty-four countries already license online casinos, and they’re not just a bunch of banana republics.

“The United Kingdom has passed laws to enact Internet gambling. The United Kingdom expressly allows United Kingdom operators to take bets from American citizens,” says Payne.

The British have legalized online gambling, even though they know our government considers it illegal. Britain has become the new center of online gaming and several companies, including Payne’s, are traded on the London Stock Exchange and pay British taxes.

“We’ve calculated that were America to have regulated the industry in 2004, the American states would have earned $1.2 billion in tax,” says Payne.

He says if the U.S. regulated the industry, he would pay the taxes owed in America by his British company. “And we have volunteered to pay it because this is an industry that has to be regulated.”

MGM/Mirage’s Lanni believes online gaming will be regulated, and legalized.

When? Lanni says he is not sure. “I think it’s when an enlightened president with an enlightened attorney general says, ‘It’s legal in all these states, we tax it, we regulate it. Let’s do it, and let’s do it for the Internet.’”

Payne doesn’t think people will ever stop gambling.

“Do you think the Internet’s suddenly going to go away? So what are we going to do in ten years time, when this industry is ten times bigger than it is today?” ask Payne. “I often say to people, ‘Please give me one solid plausible argument why you shouldn’t regulate it.’”

And Payne rejects the argument that it is bad for you. “If you regulate it, you control it. If you regulate it, you set limits. Is that bad, when the comparator is ‘Ah, just let them do what they want.’ Is that really bad? I don’t think it is.”

Wort zum Sport - Poker-Power

Beitragvon TheFolder » Mittwoch 7. Dezember 2005, 10:18

Wort zum Sport
Poker-Power

Womit exakt umschrieben ist, was Poker-Power bedeutet.

Neue Pokertour in Europa

Die "Small Town Poker Tour" (STPT), die weltgrößte Pokertour für Amateure, plant den Einzug nach Europa.

London, UK (PRWEB), 30.

Poker One of the Most Popular Search Terms in 2005

Poker One of the Most Popular Search Terms in 2005

It’s Near The Top of the Lycos' Annual List

Poker is as popular as Paris Hilton, Pamela Anderson, and Britney Spears and it blows away 50 Cent and Howard Stern. At least that’s the case with people trolling the Internet at Lycos.

“Poker” was the fourth-most popular term searched for in 2005 at Lycos.com, falling behind the beautiful Hilton, Anderson and Spears.

Each year, Lycos releases the “Lycos 50,” a list of the most searched terms for the year. Last year, “poker” was tenth on the list.

Lycos also named poker as the number one “fad” in 2005, even though poker received that accolade in 2004.

“Poker” has been in the top 50 terms searched for at Lycos for 86 weeks, and has sat at the second spot for the last two weeks. Poker is by far the most popular search term for a sport, game or hobby this year.

The professional wrestling league “WWE” was the seventh most searched term; “NFL” was at 23; “XBOX,” 24; “NBA,” 32; “NASCAR,” 69; and “golf,” 98.

50 Cent sat at 51, and Stern fell 20 spots from last year to 80.

Wetten und Zocken im Jahr der WM

Beitragvon TheFolder » Dienstag 17. Januar 2006, 00:31

Rapper Snoop Dogg Hosting a $2 Million Guaranteed Tournament

Benny Binion and the other founding fathers of tournament poker probably never envisioned this.

Rapper Snoop Dogg will host the $2 Million Rappers' Challenge Texas Hold 'em Tournament on The Big Easy, a casino boat that’s set to depart from Miami Friday, May 5. The buy-in for the event, which is being organized by Hold’em Productions, is $15,000 and a prize pool of $2 million is guaranteed.

The winner will receive $1 million. Included in the entry fee are round-trip airline tickets and a fou- day, three-night stay in a hotel. Players are also guaranteed to have at least two seats at their first table filled with a celebrity or a rapper.

The entry fee also includes entrance into a pre-tournament party, an open bar, food, entertainment throughout the day, a ticket to an after party, and a ticket to the Rappers' Challenge, a rap battle in which the winner receives $15,000.

Those who just want to go to the parties can purchase a V.I.P ticket for $2,000.

PartyGaming to Buy Assets of Empire Online

Beitragvon TheFolder » Mittwoch 15. Februar 2006, 15:38

What better day to kiss and make-up than Valentine’s Day?

Well, maybe they aren’t about to pick out drapes and buy a puppy together, but PartyGaming and Empire Online have reached a settlement in their three month old legal dispute. The problem started when PartyGaming suddenly ended its relationship with its “skin” poker rooms, rooms which shared tables with PartyGaming, creating a sort of mega-poker room on the internet. Empire Poker, Empire Online’s skin, while it retained its own customers, instantly lost tens of thousands of players from the tables it shared with PartyGaming and the other skins.

Empire Online warned investors that it would fall short of financial targets as a result of PartyGaming’s action and, as one would expect, its stock price tumbled. Empire Online then sued PartyGaming, claiming that it unfairly inflicted damage as a result of the action.

Friday, February 10, Empire Online said it was close to a settlement with PartyGaming.

Tuesday, February 14, PartyGaming announced that a settlement had been reached. The company will purchase the business, assets, intellectual property, and player databases of Empire Poker and AceClub.com for $250 million. This includes both the Empire Poker brand and Empire Poker website. PartyGaming is, in effect, absorbing its former skin.

Empire Poker intends to concentrate its ongoing efforts in operating Noble Poker and Club Dice Casino.

The deal will not be finalized until it is officially approved by shareholders on March 6, but Empire said that shareholders representing 56 percent of its shares are already onboard.

NO BLUFF: POKER IS THE NEW GOLF

Beitragvon TheFolder » Montag 27. Februar 2006, 23:38

NO BLUFF: POKER IS THE NEW GOLF

A testament to the popularity of poker among top tier executives is a survey taken of 500 CEOs who when asked if they would prefer playing a full day of poker to golf, 65% responded they would prefer poker.

When asked why poker over golf: 73 percent stated the thrill of winning, 20 percent claimed to enjoy the competition while seven percent cited networking.

Golf for many years was the sport of choice by executives in order to network - now poker is stealing the limelight. There is even a new tournament exclusively for CEOs.

"Poker is definitely the new golf," says Maria Gomez, President of CEO Poker. "If you are a male or female you can compete in the game. It is a level playing field, and only your ability to bluff, fold, and win, separates the men from the boys. Another reason poker is so popular among CEOs is the game itself. There is an element of constant danger that CEOs thrive on, where you can go out on any one hand."

The quick response that CEO Poker had when it launched the poker tour is also a testament to the popularity of poker. Over 300 CEOs have applied to play in CEO Poker in only 10 days and the online reservations are on the rise.

"Thanks to the popularity of poker on television, poker is so hot right now among CEOs," says Gomez. "They see professional poker players doing what they do every day: analyse the odds, review all the options, and make split second decisions. CEOs are naturals at poker."

Instead of a new breed of golf players, a new breed of poker stars are going from the boardroom to the poker room: day traders, dotcom millionaires, high powered women, online poker hotshots, and mathematical geniuses.

"Poker is both math and instinct, and CEOs understand the bottom line and the odds," says Gomez. "But knowing the numbers is not enough, they have to know how to read people, something they do every day in the boardroom."

CEOs who are ready to try their poker luck against other CEOs can apply to CEO Poker online by logging on to www.worldceoentertainment.com. All submissions will be reviewed. Buy ins start at ($1 500 - $10 000).

Pinnacle Entertainment Buys Aztar for $2.1 Billion

Beitragvon TheFolder » Dienstag 14. März 2006, 01:30

Pinnacle Entertainment Buys Aztar for $2.1 Billion
Deal Gives Company Tropicana Casinos in A.C and Las Vegas

Pinnacle Entertainment, Inc., the company that owns the “Boomtown Casino” brand, bought fellow casino company the Aztar Corporation today for $2.1 billion in cash.

The Aztar Corporation owns the Tropicana in both Atlantic City and Las Vegas, and Casino Aztars in Evansville, Indiana and Caruthersville, Missouri.

The deal, upon which both boards agreed this morning, now gives Pinnacle Entertainment casinos in Nevada, New Jersey, Louisiana, Missouri, and Indiana.

In 2006, Pinnacle Entertainment plans on opening a casino adjacent to the Four Seasons Hotel on the island of Exuma in the Bahamas and Aztar's new hotel at its Evansville property.

In 2007, it plans to expand and renovate Belterra, Pinnacle's property in Indiana, and L'Auberge du Lac, its resort in Lake Charles, Louisiana. It also is working to receive approval to open a casino in St. Louis. The company also plans to build a hotel at Pinnacle's Boomtown New Orleans casino.

By the time the near future is over, Pinnacle Entertainment will own a dozen casinos in the United States, more than 8,800 hotel rooms and approximately 22,000 slot machines system-wide.

In 2008, Pinnacle plans a major project that would utilize the entire 34-acre site of the Tropicana in Las Vegas. It is estimated that the design phase of this project will require at least two years. The existing Tropicana will continue to operate as it is until further notice.

The transaction is subject to approval by Aztar shareholders and the satisfaction of customary closing conditions, including the receipt of necessary regulatory and governmental approvals. The transaction is not subject to financing and is expected to close by the end of the year.

Another Pro Starts an Online Poker Room

Because what the internet needs is yet another online poker room, another poker pro has decided to start one up. This is time it’s the well-known British jewelry store owner turned professional rounder, David “The Devilfish” Ulliott and his online entry, DevilfishPoker.com.

Devilfish Poker is the seventh member of the Excapsa network, home to the popular Ultimate Bet poker room. Players familiar with Ultimate Bet or any of the other rooms on the network will know the Devilfish Poker software backwards and forwards.

Excapsa’s chief executive, Jim Ryan, was obviously quite pleased with the addition:

“Excapsa is developing its business internationally with a premier UK poker professional. The fact that ‘the Devilfish,’ perhaps the best-known poker player outside North America, has selected our poker network is a testament to the quality of our online poker software.”

Italien blockiert Online Gambling Seiten

Beitragvon NoLimitGirl » Samstag 25.

http://www.casinocitytimes.com/news/art ... tId=156748

Italians can gamble online, no problem. However, if new finance laws headed for the books in 2006 are approved, they'll only be allowed to do so on sites approved and licenced accordingly by the Italian state - and they'll all be Italian ones.
http://www.threadwatch.org/node/5035
